Session 2 Arrival

We are incredibly happy to welcome everyone back to Chewonki Neck this summer and grateful to you for the privilege of sharing the power of camp with your child. We are sorry that the arrival process meant that some parents didn’t get to meet their child’s cabin leaders in person, so we hope you’ll take a moment to visit our staff page.

Please know that we have been thinking deeply about the social and emotional needs of the campers as they step back into group activities after a year of social distancing, and we enjoyed a full afternoon and evening of team-building activities to help them feel at home with their group and well-connected with their cabin leaders. We had a sudden thunderstorm roll through this afternoon, followed by a wonderful double-rainbow in the sky above us. By the time you get this email, we will have finished a hearty family-style dinner together, and headed back to our cabins and yurts for our first night together.

Health and Wellness:
Our health and wellness team, whom many of you met in person today at drop-off, are a skilled and professional team that has guided us through the past year of on-campus programming without incident, and we fully expect the same for this camp season. Thank you for your patience with the modified arrival schedule, we felt it went quite smoothly.

Camp Photos:
I also want to provide you with information to join our new camp photo service: Waldo Photos. Our camp photographers will be uploading photos every few days, and Leadership Expedition trips will send back photos from the field with each re-supply date. You will notice that Waldo offers an opt-in and opt-out face-matching service that will help you find your child in all the different albums. You can sign up with this link, or download an app for a smartphone, using the signup code: CAMPCHEWONKI2021. It is our first year with this new service, so please let us know what you think.

Next Update:
In a few days, after everyone has settled in, you can expect to get a quick email update from your child’s cabin leaders with any comments or notes to share.

If you have any questions or concerns, please connect with the camp office by email or phone. We look forward to the laughter and learning and making of good memories that await us. It’s going to be a great summer.

Sincerely,

Nancy Kennedy, Si Norton, Charlie Fear, Tom Foley, Jen Adams, Leslie Hunter & the entire Chewonki team
