As we are gearing up for the summer season, we are excited to announce some changes regarding our camp’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement. After careful consideration and ongoing assessment of the current situation, along with the official end of the Pandemic, we have made the decision to end the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all campers and staff members as well as pre-arrival testing, effective immediately.

Over the last few years, we have faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our primary goal has always been to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved in the  Chewonki community. The initial vaccine requirement was put in place as a precautionary measure to mitigate the spread of the virus and protect the health of our campers and staff. We are grateful for the cooperation and understanding shown by all of you during this period.

While the decision to end the vaccine requirement may come as a surprise to some, it is rooted in careful consideration of the recent end to the COVID-19 Pandemic Emergency as well as guidance from our overseeing physician. Since January 2021, COVID-19 deaths have declined by 95%, and hospitalizations are down nearly 91%. Globally, COVID-19 deaths are at their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic. With the progress made in widespread vaccination campaigns and the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases, we believe that it is now appropriate to shift our focus toward providing a safe and enjoyable camp experience for all.

We understand that individuals may have different perspectives on vaccinations, and we respect everyone’s personal choices. It is important to foster an inclusive environment that welcomes diversity while maintaining a commitment to the well-being of our camp community. We encourage open dialogue and invite you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns regarding this decision.

As we look forward to an exciting and fun-filled summer, we are confident that this change will contribute positively to the camp experience for everyone involved. Our dedicated staff is eager to welcome campers and create lasting memories through engaging activities, teamwork, and friendship.

Thank you for your continued support and trust in Camp Chewonki. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s growth and development, and we remain committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all. Together, we will navigate these challenging times and create cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
