Leaders-in-Training
Becoming Your Best Self
The Camp Chewonki Leaders-in-Training (LIT) program is an immersive training experience for young people that aims to provide them with the necessary professional and personal skills to serve as successful leaders at Chewonki, in their own communities, and beyond.

Leaders-in-Training
Leadership is a Team Effort
This program will teach participants effective communication skills, an awareness of group dynamics and facilitation, and best practices in risk management and youth development. As the program advances, participants will be expected to make use of the skills they have learned by assuming progressively greater levels of responsibility on the trail and in camp.
Prepared to Lead the Way
Leaders-in-Training will take part in a 3-day Lifeguarding course, a 5-day Wilderness Advanced First Aid course, and plan, prepare and lead their own multi-day remote trip. Upon completion of the program, successful LITs will have earned certifications in Lifeguarding and WAFA and will display competence across a broad range of leadership and outdoor skills.
Ideal LIT candidates will have a clear understanding of Chewonki’s mission and purpose and a desire to make the transition from participant to staff member. They will have participated in leadership and community building skill development on a Chewonki leadership expedition or similar experience. They are also committed to understanding and living out the values outlined in Chewonki’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Framework. (While the LIT program is designed to prepare individuals to be successful future employees at Chewonki, the program does not guarantee future employment.)
