With a background that mixes creative arts and outdoor skills, Kaylan believes that the best stories are written on the trail. She has seen firsthand how facing challenges in nature can turn a group of strangers into a family, and creating opportunities for others to experience that same magic guides her work every day. She is driven to create welcoming spaces where every participant feels safe, valued, and ready to discover what they are capable of, as individuals and as a group.

Throughout her career, Kaylan has focused on the “human” side of education. As the Associate Director of Trips at Camp Chewonki, she brings a caring and thoughtful approach to leadership. She ensures that Chewonki adventures offer appropriate challenges and the tools and education required to find success through those challenges. Kaylan’s personal values align with Chewonki’s commitment to building strong communities, and she is delighted to continue growing roots in Midcoast Maine with her partner Justin (former Chewonki trip leader and current Facilities Technician), and their menagerie of cute-but-useless animals.

It is a privilege for Kaylan to lead Chewonki’s trip operations, and to get to work with the whole Chewonki team. Whether on the water or in the office, Kaylan endeavors to make these experiences safe, fun, and maybe even life-changing. She is dedicated to fostering a culture where adventure and real community connection always go hand in hand.
