About our Staffing Philosophy and Practices

We pride ourselves on a thorough hiring process that enables us to hire the best staff possible to work with our campers during the summer. Staff undergo an extensive interview and we require and check three references for each applicant. We complete background checks for all staff. Many of our staff come to us through referrals from current or former employees! We practice gender-inclusive hiring practices, which you can read more about in our Guide to Gender Inclusivity at Camp FAQ. Staff have staff-only bathrooms and shower spaces that are separate from camper bathrooms.

Summer staff participate in a 10 to 15 day orientation based on their role at camp. We cover a wide range of topics including camper emotional and social well-being, mental health first aid, risk management, group dynamics, technical skills, camp games, age group specific training, and more.

All of our activity staff and coordinators are Wilderness First Aid certified and all trip leaders are Wilderness First Responders.
