- Plan and prepare for assigned trips; this includes:
- Finalize trip logistics under the supervision of the Associate Director of Trips and the trips team
- Pack food and gear appropriate for discipline and duration of trip
- Ensure participants
- Lead 2-3 backcountry trips over the summer season. These trips may vary in duration from 3 days to 3 weeks.
- Effectively implement the following while on in the field:
- Risk management and group management
- Teach applicable technical and interpersonal skills
- Represent Chewonki with professionalism
- Communicate with the trips office as planned and as needed
- Hold responsibility for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of participants; this includes:
- Develop healthy and appropriate relationships with participants
- Manage risk and maintain participant safety
- Directly supervise participants as assigned
- Provide first aide as needed and manage any chronic or ongoing medical needs under the direction of the Health & Wellness team
- Foster positive and mutually supportive dynamics with co-leaders
- Between field days and prep days, support campers’ backcountry experiences by leading related and complementary activities on campus. Examples could include:
- Backcountry cooking
- Facilitating low and high ropes initiatives
- Fire building
- Watercraft skills
- Leave No Trace ethics
- Map & compass navigation
- Must be 21+ at the start of contract
- Must have current WFR cert, or ability to obtain prior to the start of contract
